Get Involved

Expect more from your education! SBCC Honors Program students make the most of their class time and free time at SBCC. Our program’s smaller courses and great professors help students achieve their intellectual goals. Out of class, we offer informal events, field trips, hikes, and a community of fun, interesting people. In Spring 2023, there will be the first Honors Sustainability Festival, with student-run vendors, swaps, and live music. We want you! Join us!

EXPECT MORE

Completion of the Honors Program makes some transfer agreements and transfer scholarships available to the student. Join us and you automatically join The Honors Guild, a group composed of all SBCC Honors Program students (there are over 300 of us).

BE MORE

The Honors Guild offers “Pods,” hikes, field trips, intellectual debate across campus, and the chance to influence our environment, be it SBCC, Santa Barbara, or the web. The Guild runs the SBCC Student Conference and other events, hosted by Honors, contributes to the Stand, the Honors Magazine, and makes Honors Program students leaders across campus.

@ SBCC

Indeed, several valedictorians were Honors Program students. Over the years, Honors students leave their mark on the program. This year, Honors students reframed the leadership of the Guild. What ideas will you contribute?

The Program

Scholarship is neither dead nor dry: SBCC Honors Program students find what matters to them, and they pursue these interests in class presentations, in conference submissions, in heated discussions with other students, and in surprising, insightful papers.  Our students are passionate because their words and ideas matter.  Our goal in Honors is to help you find your focus and then hone the skills you need to engage our world.

Learn Together

Student Life

The Honors Guild harnesses the quick thinking of students to run the Annual SBCC Student Conference, hosted by Honors.  The conference is open to all SBCC students, but Honors students moderate panels and discussions, help choose the works that will be included, and some help select the prize winning work.  The conference is the opportunity for students to address the issues that are important to them, to foster debate, to present and discuss their ideas—to be people who are making knowledge, rather than consuming it.
